2nd Eco-Friendly Fashion Show
In 2011, the school administration gave me the opportunity to have a trimester long Eco-Friendly studio class. In this class the students took on multiple projects. First, students had to research different environmental topics and present their findings in the medium of an iMovie. Second, they needed to design a dress from only recyclable materials. The once very small MCC soon became a hit with the students after the success of the first Fashion Show. The club was soon crowded with students that wanted to be part of the club only to assure their participation in the Eco-Fashion Show. It was during this year that we decided to treat the fashion show as a fundraiser for our club and other school activities.
We had decided to make the theme for 2010’s show to be rainforest. We decorated the gym with newspapers palms trees, big paper birds that were suspended on the runway and paper magazine lotus flowers that outlined the runway. A variety of animal sound effects put together by the TYWLSA MCC members using GaragaBand thundered the venue. Our gym felt like a real jungle, a paper jungle.
